Why B E (Beautiful Excellence)? Excellent question. To be honest it is a revamp of a vision given me in 2004. Being a man of faith I envisioned a place in which young and old could collaborate and vibe in an atmosphere that promotes esteem, confidence, and belief. This would be accomplished through the Arts, such as writing, art, photography, music, dance etc.. The initial name of the organization was The Gift Will Make Room, the logo was exquisite. It was of a key, a torso, a sphere, and beams of light. It represented the gift within that would unlock developing potential, open doors that would showcase the creative light of the individual,  and the possibilities when such gifts are shared within a collaborative community, with greater community. I was super juiced about what I could present to the world around me. But nothing came of it.

I was gung-ho about this non-profit that would not only put smiles on faces but bring hope and esteem to those that would partake in what it had to offer or just be inspired by what was given. I went here and there, asked this person and that person, that would seem to know avail. Well, let me back up a bit. It all started through my love of poetry. I was in the process of writing a book of poetry entitled Leyef’s Expressions. It seemed I was writing it for years. Then one day while in the midst of writing, I had a  vision come to me, and I heard the Lord say write a book. I was like, ummm, I have been writing one for the last year. Then I heard write a book the second time, 7 chapters, 7 poems or stanzas per chapter, then I received the names of the chapters and the name of the book, Something Bout Love. I was blown away. It was also during this vision, I saw the vision of the non-profit, three buildings, and another building. I was humble and left a little bewildered because I never thought of founding a non-profit, with places to produce, entertain, and educate, let alone to later pastor.   It was overwhelming, it was exciting, it was something I never imagined or thought. 3 months later the book was finished.  Published a decade plus later.

To cut through the filed a bit, it was during covid that, what I let wane to the point of expiration, that the Lord inspired me to pick up what I let go. But this time around it was through a different guise. When the world was shut down, God opened me up. During the process of publishing my second book, Uh-Flik-Shuhn (a book of poetry) I was moved to provide original paintings. Hmmm, considering I never painted before, I was like okayyy! Lo and behold, my supervisor at the time, Sharon Johnson was like, “let’s do a paint and sip,” for our group development/outing. I was thinking to myself, “this is crazy how the Lord reveals His will at times.” So we go, and being me I drew my own picture and said, “if I’m going to paint, Imma do it right!” Wallah, my first ever painting which is in the book along with another four original paintings (by the way I have self published all three of my books of poetry) and a love for painting was birthed.  So then, I did what I did not do with my first book, I was inspired, well dragged to do a book signing. And let me tell you, it was phenomenal. This was the vision of 2004 being birthed. Which would later morph into B E Beautiful Excellence. The rest is yet to come.
